Mayor Johnson yesterday opened London's first 'scramble crossing' at Oxford Circus. All street barriers in the area were removed in order to facilitate pedestrians' ability to move diagonally over the space, and pavements widened.
At peak 32,000 pedestrians per hour pass through Oxford Circus and the hope is that the new layout (delivered at a cost of £5m) will make journeys more efficient for shoppers and road users.
The Guardian has praised the move. What do you think?
