UPDATED: Changes at the DfT

Following a cabinet re-shuffle, there has been a change of the guard at the Department for Transport.

Lord Adonis, rail enthusiast and previously a junior Minister at the DfT, has been appointed as Secretary of State for Transport.

Meanwhile, Sadiq Khan has been appointed transport Minister under Lord Adonis, and will both attend Cabinet and be the senior spokesman on transport in the House of Commons.

Departmental responsibilities have been assigned:

Lord Adonis (Secretary of State): delivery, long-term strategy, high-speed rail, carbon, security

Sadiq Khan (Minister of State): City & Regional networks (inc CrossRail), the environment, climate change, Europe

Paul Clarke (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State): international networks, road safety, freight

Chis Mole (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State): national networks, corporate
