Newslinks | £100m Boost of West End Car Ban

LondonUnlocked, The NewsEditor

The BBC carries a story about the recent closure to traffic of Oxford Street, Bond Street and Regents Street on Saturday. Sales in the stores along these routes are estimated to have reached over £100m, far above the normal figure for a days sales, even given the run up to Christmas.

Taking into account the lower carbon emissions from the ban, decreased policing and congestion charge costs, and boon to tourism that such events draw, this scheme has been proved a resounding success.

LondonUnlocked very much hopes that this event can be repeated in the future and considered seriously as a policy for London rather than a once a year spectacle.
