Newslinks | Livingstone to Create 'London Rail'?

The NewsEditor

Following the launch of London Overground, Ken Livingstone is to submit a bid next year to take over Southern Trains and all commuter services terminating in London, reports the Times. Effectively re-nationalising a large chuck of the rail network, this would be a bold move from the Mayor which would unify pricing a payment structures across the thousands of trains which leave London daily.

In principal LondonUnlocked supports measures which ease the commute of Londoners, encouraging them on to public transport and off the roads. However, we worry about any moves which reduce competition and therefore value for money for the taxpayer.

If the Mayor is successful in his re-election campaign we will be very interested to examine his plans in full when they are published.
